Diarrheal diseases are the major cause of infant mortality in Cambodia. In rural Cambodia, gastro-intestinal diseases cause more deaths than the sum of HIV/AIDS, malaria and TB. It also contributes to malnutrition as recurrent diarhoea causes mal-absorption of nutrients.
Clean Water
From July 9-April 2010 twenty two wells were installed and a ceramic water filter given to every family. 1000 mosquito nets were given to villagers in Cham Resh and surrounds.. Make Every Child Foundation has funded the Capacity Building and Health Education Program (CBHEP) team, a division of the Angkor Hospital for Children, to deliver the health component of the project.
Sanitation
In 2011, the focus will be on sanitation and hygiene. As the village is flood prone during the wet season, a feasibility study has been conducted by the Chief Trainer in the Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) from the Rural Health Department in the Ministry of Rural Development. This will ascertain the best methods of sanitation for the village.
