Health

Diarrheal diseases are the major cause of infant mortality in Cambodia. In rural Cambodia, gastro-intestinal diseases cause more deaths than the sum of HIV/AIDS, malaria and TB. It also contributes to malnutrition as recurrent diarhoea causes mal-absorption of nutrients.

Clean Water

From July 9-April 2010 twenty two wells were installed and a ceramic water filter given to every family. 1000 mosquito nets were given to villagers in Cham Resh and surrounds.. Make Every Child Foundation has funded the Capacity Building and Health Education Program (CBHEP) team, a division of the Angkor Hospital for Children, to  deliver the health component of the project.

Sanitation

In 2011, the focus will be on sanitation and hygiene. As the village is flood prone during the wet season, a feasibility study has been conducted by the Chief Trainer in the Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) from the Rural Health Department in the Ministry of Rural Development. This will ascertain the best methods of sanitation for the village.

  • $10 buys a mosquito net.
  • $15 buys can provide a ceramic water filter to a family
  • $300 provides a shared well for several families. 8 more wells are needed.

All donations are tax deductable in Australia. You will receive your Tax receipt courtesy of Rotary Australia Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS)

  • The Real Cambodia

    Dr King Gan - Founder

My first visit to Cham Resh was in March 2009 with the Outreach team from the Angkor Hospital for Children They were conducting an education session on the management of diarrhoea in children. In the Q&A period I was asked by one of the mothers for a well for the village. The only source of drinking water was from a dirty pond. As I looked at the scene of the village and its people: malnourished naked children, poor shelter, lack of clean water, and a dilapidated primary school, no or little livelihood. I realized the real issue was abject POVERTY!!

THIS IS THE REAL CAMBODIA!!! THE LAND OF POOR!!

I was very moved by the plight of the villagers and decided to start a project to help them. So MECC was founded.
