MECC’s Work

Cham Resh is a sub- village in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. It is 70km north east of Siem Reap, famous for the ancient structure of Angkor Wat. Its population is 549 is made up of 107 families with 79 children below the age of 5 years.

Although about 80% of Cambodians live in rural areas, Cham Resh is an example of one of the poorest villages due to its isolation. The road to Cham Resh is almost impassable during the monsoon season due to flooding and during the dry season, access requires a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

    Dr King Gan - Founder

My first visit to Cham Resh was in March 2009 with the Outreach team from the Angkor Hospital for Children They were conducting an education session on the management of diarrhoea in children. In the Q&A period I was asked by one of the mothers for a well for the village. The only source of drinking water was from a dirty pond. As I looked at the scene of the village and its people: malnourished naked children, poor shelter, lack of clean water, and a dilapidated primary school, no or little livelihood. I realized the real issue was abject POVERTY!!

THIS IS THE REAL CAMBODIA!!! THE LAND OF POOR!!

I was very moved by the plight of the villagers and decided to start a project to help them. So MECC was founded.
